Description: A unique training series in which parents learn to collaborate with other parents to create an environment for their children to be successful. The program offers a better understanding of the diagnosis, and an in-depth review of visual supports. It also includes strategies on how to best communicate with professionals, as well as how parents can advocate for their child in a positive manner. An optional follow-up class is available. Description: A nine-week training series for parents and professionals teaching and raising a child with an autism spectrum disorder. The series provides valuable information in a supportive environment where audience participation is welcome.
The series is supported by both a parent of a child(ren) with autism and a professional. The series topics include:
- Characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Visual Structure
- Communication
- Sensory Integration Defined
- Sensory-based Strategies for Establishing and Maintaining a Readiness to Learn
- Independent Work
- Visual Supports to Enhance Social & Communication Skills
- Positive Behavior Supports
- Parent Pane
Eighteen hours Continuing Education Credits (CEU’s) are available to professionals. An optional follow-up class is available. Please call for details.

Description: A two-day training series designed for parents and professionals working with individuals with Asperger Syndrome. The program helps to teach parents and professionals about the unique characteristics and learning styles of persons with this disorder.
The series topics include:
- Introduction to Asperger Syndrome
- Social Communication & Social Relationships
- Marching to the Beat of a Different Drum Part I
- Marching to the Beat of a Different Drum Part II
and Open Forum
- Open Forum

Description: An overview of the Social Thinking Model based on the work of Michelle Garcia Winner. Social Thinking is the missing link for individuals with High Functioning Autism, Asperger Syndrome and other disorders related to social cognitive deficits. The Social Thinking model teaches children to communicate effectively by learning to take another’s perspective, understanding humor, learning to problem solve, listening with their whole bodies and getting the big picture in conversations.
RI Medical Assistance (Katie Beckett) may pay for parent participation in A Starting Point, Parent to Parent & ASpire. Introduction to Social Thinking is not a reimbursable training. Parents should contact their CEDARR Center to be referred to the program under the Enhance Services Criteria for CEDARR Centers.

Padres a Padres
Mientras que los padres navegan el sistema de educación especial, ellos encuentran el apoyo y consuelo en otras familias viviendo con el Autismo. El adiestramiento Padres a Padres fue creado de este concepto. Adiestramiento a padres que tienen niños con autismo, a enseñar y apoyar a otras familias que están comenzando su de aprender y vivir con el autismo.
El Proyecto Autismo es una sociedad de profesionales y padres trabajando juntos para apoyar y educar a la comunidad para que todos puedan abrazar a niños y adultos con autismo.
Los padres traen una perspectiva especial ya que viven con el autismo diariamente. Por medio de sus experiencias personales, ellos traen compasión y el conocimiento de las luchas y las alegrías cotidianas de criar a un niño con Autismo.
Padres a Padres es una serie de adiestramientos autismo muy especial donde los padres son adiestrados a colaborar con otros padres para crear un ambiente exitoso para su hijo(a). Los adiestradores traen sus experiencias e información para apoyar a las familias que apenas están comenzando su propio viaje en el descubrimiento del autismo.

Recibir la noticia de que un niño a sido diagnosticado con el Desórden del Espectro de Autismo es muchas veces devastador para los padres y miembros de la familia. Lo que es más traumático aún es la realización de que no hay ningún protocolo de intervención para la vida de los niños.
A Starting Point evolucionó de esa lucha.
Diseñado para educar padres, educadores, patólogos del habla, terapistas ocupacionales, proveedores de servicios basados en el hogar y cualquier persona que trabaje para apoyar y enseñar niños con ASD.
A Starting Point ofrece una introducción al modelo del Proyecto de Autismo de Rhode Island. La meta del adiestramiento es aumentar el conocimiento de los participantes relacionado a la terminología, algunas teorias de práctica, aplicaciones prácticas , recursos y soluciones relevantes.

El curso Aspire fue diseñado para enseñar a padres y profesionales sobre las características particulares y modos de aprendizaje de personas con el Síndrome de Asperger.
