ASDads
Autism Spectrum Disorder has had devastatingeffects upon families. Recent rates of diagnosis have brought to the forefront the increasing problem that faces children and families dealing with autism. In an effort to address some of these issues, the Autism Project of Rhode Island will revive a father support group (“ASDads”) for fathers who have children on the spectrum.
This support group is for and run by fathers of children with autism spectrum disorders. The group will meet on a monthly basis, on the first Monday of each month.
Purpose
The focus of the support group will be to identify areas of concerns that are particular to fathers who have children who are diagnosed with Autism. Some issues that are of concern are:
- Education of ASD children (IEP etc)
- Financial Planning (special needs trusts, college, SSI, SSDI etc)
- Emotional strains on relationships and families
- Identifying services and resources for fathers
The group will be run and guided by the membership. There will be an attempt to schedule guest speakers and a formatted presentation whenever
possible.
Information on meeting times, special presentations and outings will be listed on this page. We will also post if the meeting is cancelled.
First Meeting is JULY 7, 2008 at 7pm
